When should you talk to your worker?

A participant and a worker having a conversation.

You can talk to your worker at any time while they are supporting you.

But it’s a good idea to talk to your worker:

A calendar with different days highlighted.

  • often

A calendar that says 'Start'.

  • when they first start to support you

A change icon and a participant and a worker having a conversation.

  • when you want them to change how they support you.

A document that says 'Examples' with a list on it.

We wrote examples of when you might talk to your worker.

Getting a new support worker

A worker supporting David and a badge that says 'New'.

David is about to start to receive support from a new worker.

David with his hand raised and a document with a numbered list on it.

David has documents that explain what sort of supports he needs.

These include his:

A document that says 'Plan'.

  • NDIS plan

A document called 'Service agreement' with a handshake icon on it.

  • service agreement.

A service agreement is a document that explains what you and your provider agreed to.

A worker looking at a document.

He asks his new support worker to read these documents.

But David also explains to his worker how he wants to receive that support.

Changing how you want support

Wanda and Georgia high-fiving each other and a thumbs up.

Wanda has had the same support worker, Georgia, for the last 3 years.

She likes Georgia a lot.

A computer with a house and a magnifying glass on the screen.

Georgia supported Wanda to look for a new place to live.

They did this on the computer.

Wanda and Georgia facing each other. Above Wanda is a speech bubble and above Georgia is a cross.

But Georgia did what she wanted to find a new place for Wanda to live.

And didn’t listen to what Wanda wanted.

Wanda asked Georgia to:

  • listen to her
  • respect her
  • work with her, not for her.

Wanda with her hand raised and a computer with a magnifying glass on the screen.

Wanda also asked if she could use the computer while she looked for somewhere to live.

She told Georgia to only help her when she asked for it.
